Aihe: Ok who wants to help a foreigner?

Ok who wants to help a foreigner?

    Hi,

First post here my Finnish is "ok" but this is a little bit too technical for me, I am building a HTPC that will eventually replace my Canal+ dual digibox. I have a Terratec 2400i (dual tuner DVB-T) in there but I really want to have DVB-S + the encrypted channels in the same box. I noticed that some people have this card TwinhanDTV Sat-CI on the forum, but I couldn't really work out if this was working with A: Canal digital and B: Windows MCE2005.

Anyone want to start a chat with me? I try the English forums but they are (unsurprisingly) dominated by the US and UK satellite markets.

I guess, DVB-C/T is the only way to go, if your plan is to build up your system around a htpc. The problem with the satellite provider, CD, is that they are changing their subscription policy towards proprietary hardware only. That is, they'll expect you to use their hardware, and you'll have to accept that or not. Personally, I don't accept that kind of commercial arrogance, but it seems to be the common trend nowadays among all european providerds.

Sorry for not being able to help any more in this case,

    sm

    Hi again!

Thanks for the info, is that solid or are they just threatening? Surely if the pushed people to use thier own proprietery hardware it would force users to consider "pre-paid" cards. I know I would look down that road anyway.
The problem is that I don't get DVB-C here and the DVB-T channel selection is so poor, I am forced to use DVB-T.
If I could find a STB that had T and B and a DVD player and a 500gig hard disk I would be happy.

    Thanks for saying hello anyway...

theyve announced that they will not sell new subscriptions without a card that is paired to one or a fw of their accepted STBs (that have a chip and SW that support Conax pairing). They also claim that such STBs woul be en masse on market in the fall.

to start to change the old subscription base, issuing new cards, and subsiding STBs is a rather expensive excersize, so I don't expect that to be happening too soon, especially if cardsharing over the net doesn't become to prevalent.

no hard facts on a complete switch are availble, probably because the company has not decided on a complete switch yet.

Hi pmcguire, I've just finished building a HTPC using MCE2005, and I'm running both DVB-T and DVB-S cards in it. I'm using the Technotrend budget cards, erm, what exactly do you need to know
