Humax PVR-9200T

Kun nyt olen vajaat pari viikkoa tätä laitetta ehtinyt testailemaan, niin ajattelinpa koota tännekin muutamia huomioita siitä. Yleisesti ottaen vaikutelmat ovat olleet varsin positiivisia. Aina on kuitenkin saatava jostakin valittaa, joten seuraavassa listassa on muutamia bugeja tai muita erikoisia toiminnallisuuksia, joihin on tullut törmättyä. Jos johonkin näistä ongelmista on jokin kätevä ratkaisu olemassa, ja en ole vain osannut ohjekirjaa riittävän tarkasti tavata, niin neuvot otetaan tyytyväisenä vastaan.

1) Teksti-tv:tä käytettäessä PAGE+ kelaa sivuja taaksepäin ja PAGE- eteenpäin. Loogistako?

2) DVB-tekstityksessä teksti jää ruutuun näkyville turhan pitkäksi aikaa, kun puhe on jo loppunut. Lyhytkin teksti pysyy ruudulla arviolta lähemmäs 10 sekuntia.

3) Käytettäessä ajansiirtoa DVB-tekstitetyssä ohjelmassa ei tekstitysvalintoja pysty muuttamaan mitenkään ajansiirron aikana.

4) Jos DVB-tekstitetystä lähetyksestä ottaa tekstityksen pois päältä ja kelaa sitten taaksepäin käyttäen ajansiirtoa, tekstitys palautuu takaisin siinä kohdassa, mistä ajansiirto aloitettiin.

Kohdan 4 huomaa erityisestä YLE:n lähetyksissä, joissa on ns. hollanti-tekstitys. Sinällään olisi tietysti kätevintä, jos kyseistä tekstitystä ei edes näytettäisi automaattisesti, kun sitä ei ole valittu tekstityksen kieleksi. Nyt tilanne on siis kuitenkin se, että vaikka tekstityksen ottaisi ohjelman aluksi pois, se palautuu näppärästi takaisin ajansiirtotoimintoja käytettäessä. Kaiken lisäksi sitä ei saa enää poistettua uudelleen, ennen kuin palaa takaisin live-lähetykseen. Ongelmaa pystyy jollain tavoin kiertämään muuttamalla tekstityksen näyttö manuaaliseksi ennen ajansiirron käyttöä tällaisissa lähetyksissä. Ei ehkä kuitenkaan mikään erityisen kätevä ratkaisu.

Actually i noticed yesterday that the alternative transfer software, HumaxMediaController, does the renaming on the fly by converting ":" to "_".

MediaController should also be FASTER than elinker, but as far as i've worked on it, it's actually much s l o w e r, no matter how i configure it. Transfer rate is around 100KB. One GB took about 3-4hours to transfer. I can download faster from the internet than Humax. Do you or anyone have any experience how to get it work faster?

Ja suomeksi, että tuolla Marcin linkin takaa löytyvällä Humax Media Controllerilla saa Humaxista ladattua tallennuksen, jonka nimessä on kaksoispiste. eLinkerillä se ei onnistu. Sen pitäisi myös olla eLinkeriä nopeampi, mutta minulla se toimi ainaiki paaaaaaljon hitaammin. Se käyttää myös eri usb-ajuria, joten jos haluaa käyttää sekä sitä, että elinkeriä, pitää Humaxin ajuri muistaa aina vaihtaa oikeaksi, ennen softan käynnistystä.

It sounds as though the PVR is not able to connect to your PC at USB 2.0. If the connection is USB 1.1 then the transfer rate slows down to more than you would expect but I dont know why. Elinker shows you if the connection made to your PC is USB 2.0 or not - do you remember what was displayed?

Make sure the USB drivers for yur USB controller is up to date. Some chipsets are worse than others also. VIA doesnt seem to have the best reputation whereas NEC has a good reputation. Intel USB controllers are OK now but some earlier ones could be very problematic. A cheap new USB cards/adaptors with NEC chipset may sort you out. Try using a 1 meter USB cable - needs to be a good quality one as others have found some USB cables cause problems or no connection at all. I once bought a 2.5" hard disk USB 2.0 caddy to connected a spare laptop hard drive to my USB port (from ebay). The USB cable supplied could not sustain a fast connection needed so I tried another USB cable (certified USB 2.0) that came with my Sony Camcorder and it worked fine.

Also, make sure nothing else is running on your machine when transfering - disconnect your machine from the network/internet and switch off messenger programmes, Antivirus, firewall and anything else running.
On the PVR, tune to a channel that is not showing any programmes (this stops the PVR automatically recording it (buffering)) or as soon as it starts up quickly go into the system status menu before it starts to buffer the channel and so that it doesnt start to collect the EPG.

Also, if you are using laptop make sure the power supply is connected. If you dont have USB 2.0 ports on your machine you can buy a notebook card adaptor or PCI card adaptor for normal PCs for extra USB 2.0 ports.

Of course if you are feeling more adventurous you could try using 9200tReadFiles ( http://roo.st-andrews.ac.uk/humax/92...dFiles0871.exe ) You need to connect your humax hard drive to your PC directly or via a USB caddy but my transfers are like 2.5GB in 4 minutes

Yep, i crawled through the faqs etc. about the MediaController. One thing i will try is to change the usb cable. It's kind of old. Pre-USB2 aged. Everything else is about fullfilled. I use Dell Latitude D800, of which's USB ports are good enough even to serve Nebula DigiTV on battery power, so they are good, i can tell you.

Kun siirrät PVR:stä tavaraa PC:lle:
- tarkista, että yhteys on USB2.0 eikä 1.1, Elinker näyttää tämän.
- katso, että USB-ajurit ovat ajan tasalla. http://driveragent.com/
- käytä hyvälaatuista 1:n metrin USB-johtoa.
- kytke PC pois internetistä tai muusta verkosta ja sammuta messenger-ohjelmat
- sammuta virustorjunta-ohjelmat, palomuuri ja kaikki muut sovellukset
- laita PVR kanavalle, joka ei lähetä ohjelmaa
- jos käytät kannettavaa tietokonetta, kytke se sähköverkkoon

You are connecting at something like USB 1.1. Do you know if you have USB 2.0 ports for sure? One way to check is by right clicking on My Computer, select the Hardware tab at the top of the next box, click on the Device manager button. Expand the entry for Universal Serial Bus Controllers. In the drop down list below it does it have an entry for an 'Enhanced' host controller? Borrowing another USB 2.0 adaptor to see if that makes all the difference is one way - or buying one you know you can return if it doesnt work out.

Maksaisi kaksi sataa euroa enemmän ja menettäisi toisen virittimen ja originaalilaatuisen tallennuksen? Ei kuulosta houkuttelevalta. Kyllä minä ainakin nautin enemmän siitä, että ohjelmat voi tallentaa, vaikka ne menisivät minuutin päällekkäinkin yliaikojensa kanssa tai että viikonloppureissun ajalta saa kaikki haluamansa ohjelmat talteen, eikä vain niitä, jotka sattuvat tulemaan eri aikaan.

Hifi-lehdessä oli testissä Philipsin DVD-tallennin DVB-T-virittimellä. Siinä todettiin: originaalikuvan ja DVD:lle poltetun kuvassa ei silmällä erota mitään eroa.

Riippunee valitusta tallennuslaadusta, mutta en toki kiistä arvostetun lehden näkemystä. Silti tuo asia on joillekin ihmisille tärkeä ja on sillä ihan käytännönkin merkitys: jos suomalaisen digikanavan bitrate roikkuu vaikka jossain 2 megan tienoilla, niin tallentaminen parhaalla mahdollisella laadulla vaikkapa 8 megan bitratella vie jotakuinkin merkittävästi enemmän tilaa kovolta kuin alkuperäisen lähetteen tallentamiseen olisi tarvittu. PVR-laitteissa tilaa menee vain sen verran kuin on tarpeen.

Sinänsä tuo tallennuslaatu on pikkuseikka verrattuna toisen virittimen merkitykseen. Siitä tuskin kukaan kahden virittimen laitteen omistaja olisi valmis luopumaan.

Latitude D800 has only USB2 ports and they work really well. Maybe the toughest test device for the ports is Nebula USB2 DigiTV. It takes also the 5V power from the port. That works like a charm in the D800. For example i've built two desktops because of Nebula not working properly, and it still does not work.

Back to topic. Yesterday i bought the most expensive USB2-cable i found, but have not tried it yet. We'll see.

Olen harkitsemassa Humaxin hankintaa, ja yksi seikka aina askarruttaa noissa teknisissä kuvauksissa ja muotoutuu tässä tyhmäksi kysymykseksi.

Kun puhutaan kahden kanavan samanaikaisesta tallennuksesta, mainitaan aina, että mikäli haluaa katsella samaan aikaan kolmatta kanavaa livenä, on sen oltava samassa kanavanipussa kuin tallennettava kanava. Tarkoitetaanko tässä tapauksessa tallennettavalla kanavalla kumpaa tahansa tallennettavaa kanavaa? Esimerkki: jos tallennan ohjelmaa nro 1 Ylen1:ltä ja ohjelmaa nro 2 neloselta, voinko katsoa kolmantena mitä tahansa kanavaa, joka kuuluu jompaan kumpaan kanavanippuun? Eikö ole niin, että noiden kahden kanavanipun ulkopuolella (A ja B) ei ole paljon muuta kuin Canal Digitalin kanavat ja Digiviihde (ja kenties jotain muuta todella hyödytöntä)?

Miten on te kokeneet digistelijät?

1.2MB/sec is about normal for the 9200t. That is the equivalent of 9.6MBytes/sec which is about average for this device. With this sort of transfer rate you should be able to transfer 2GB in about 30 minutes in real world tests. The device is USB2.0 Full Speed and not USB 2.0 Hi Speed. Humax are going to look into getting the PVR to present itself as a Hi Speed USB 2.0 device when it connects to a PC to get a bit more out of it - but the real bottle neck is that the PVR does all the work during the transfers. Elinker merely requests files from the PVR and the PVR does the job or retreiving and fetching them.

This the same transfer rate as you get with the toppy. Although, the toppy has a turbo mode which you can use to get up to something like 19MBytes/sec. The way it does this is to basically deactivate all processes on the PVR so that the only thing the CPU is doing is transfering files. The intersting thing is that the toppy is actually a USB 2.0 Hi Speed device (Humax is Full Speed USB 2.0 - much slower transfer speed). So even if Humax enable Hi Speed transfers it will still be slow, even if it also implmented a Turbo mode - which Humax are considering.

So whatever happens, the transfers are always going to be not as fast as we like. The alternative is to use that tool I referenced a few posts back about connecting the Humax hard disk to your PC or via an IDE-USB converter and connect to usb ports on laptop/pc. Transfer rates this way for me using the USB adaptor are about 85MBytes/Sec. That 2GB file transfers in 3.5 minutes instead of 30 minutes.

I have spoken to a contact at Humax recently about the possibilities going forward. One thing he is consiering doing is requesting a software developer resource from Korea to come over and look at the possibility of a slightly different tool. This tool and the PC will do all the reading and work to transfer the recordings and access the disk directly via the front USB port. They would of course need to look at making the device still present itselfas a Hi Speed device to PCs to optimise the whole thing. We shall see.

From what I have read of your posts now, it appears getting a better quality USB cable has accounted for your speed boost to 1.2MB/sec.

On kytketty. Lähinnä olen käyttänyt satunnaisesti radion kuunteluun. Laatu on tuohon tarkoitukseen ollut ihan kelvollinen. Vertailukohtaa ei tosin ole, eli ehkä joku muu osaa analysoida tarkemmin.

Niin ja mistäs ton saa Suomessa halvalla..

Nyt tulikin vähän hankalampi. Riippunee siitä, miten halvan määrittelee Jos pidät hieman alle 500 euroa halpana, niin sitten osaan vastata. Kovin paljon tuota edullisempia en ole nähnyt.
