Katsokaapas Ringun jenkkiversiolla alalle tulleen tuottaja Roy Leen tulevien tuotantojen listaa -> imdb. Siinä on miehellä aika hurja nippu re-makeja työn alla, 9 kpl näin pikaisesti laskien. Mistään halppisleffoistakaan ei ole kyse kun tekijälistoilta löytyy mm. Scorsesea ja Nakataa.

Minusta uudet elokuvatulkinnat samasta tarinasta tai kirjasta ovat yleensä ihan OK, koska minusta elokuvantekijöillä pitää olla taiteellinen vapaus tehdä mitä nyt huvittaa. Jos re-maket olisivat "kiellettyjä", olisivat Leo Tolstoin kirjasta Sota ja rauha jääneet tekemättä Hollywood-versio War and Peace vuonna 1956 ja Sergei Bondarchukin Neovostoliitossa kuvattu jättiteos Vojna i mir vuodelta 1968, koska jo vuonna 1915 kyseinen kirja oli käännetty liikkuvaksi kuvaksi Venäjällä elokuvassa Vojna i mir. Vaikka tuostakin on tehty vielä vuonna 2000 Ranskassa suoraan tv-levitykseen muutaman tunnin versio La Guerre et la paix, ei minun mielestäni uudet versiot ollenkaan alenna vanhojen arvoa, elleivät sitten uudet versiot onnistu olemaan merkittävästi parempia kuin vanhemmat. Tästä Sota ja rauha -esimerkistä minulla lojuu katsomattomana dvd:llä vuosien 1956 ja 1968 versiot ja aion molemmat katsoa avoimen myönteisellä asenteella, joten miksipä siis asettaisin itselleni turhia rajoituksia elokuvien suhteen.
Vaikka siis suhtaudun uusiin elokuvatulkintoihin periaatteessa myönteisemmin kuin useimmat plazalaiset, tuon Roy Leen tulevien elokuvien lista näyttää hieman pahalta. On aivan eri asia, kun esimerkiksi Schumacher ja Webber tekevät yhdeksännen elokuvatulkinnan klassisesta Oopperan kummitus -tarinasta (The Phantom of the Opera) varmasti vilpitöntäkin uuden tulkinnan tuomaa luomisen intoa puhkuen, kun taas herra Roy Lee on keksinyt näppärän tavan lyödä rahoiksi aasialaisen elokuvan uuden nousun tuomista uusista, raikkaista ideoista. Schumacherin ja Webberin touhu on mielestäni ihan hyväksyttävää, kun taas Roy Leen re-make-tehtailu menee jo yli pienen elokuvaharrastajan ymmärryksen.

LL Cool J (S.W.A.T.) will star in the comedy remake of Last Holiday, playing an ex-con who has a secret crush on the main character played by Queen Latifah, says The Hollywood Reporter. Wayne Wang (Maid in Manhattan) is directing the film.
The original 1950 British movie starred Alec Guinness as a poor clerk who, with only a few months to live, decides to take one last holiday, during which he's mistaken for an eccentric aristocrat.
In Paramount Pictures' new version, Queen Latifah will play a shy clerk who goes on a European vacation after she learns that she is terminally ill.
Alicia Witt has also joined the film which starts shooting November 15 in New Orleans and Prague.

Paramount Pictures has bought remake rights to gritty French crime thriller Le Convoyeur and hired Se7en screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker to pen the script.
Variety says the original movie begins as a man drives with his son behind an armored car. When masked gunmen pull a heist on the vehicle, they open fire on the car behind them, killing the boy. Suspecting an inside job, the grieving father takes a job at the armored car company, bent on avenging his son's death.

Revolution Studios is mounting a remake of the 1980 horror-thriller The Fog, with Debra Hill, David Foster and John Carpenter producing, But Carpenter, who co-wrote the original with Hill and also directed it, will not be returning to the director´s chair. "I have done it once, and I don´t want to do it again," Carpenter said.

Paramount Pictures and producer Scott Rudin have signed a deal to remake The Blob, the 1958 campy horror classic that launched the star of Steve McQueen
The film, about a jelly-like substance that crashes from space and grows as it consumes every human in its path, comes to Paramount from Warner Bros. Pictures.
No writer has yet been set for the tale, which will be contemporized. The film remade in 1988 when Frank Darabont wrote the script with Chuck Russell, who directed the movie.

Tähän asti eivät nämä remake-uutiset ole paljoakaan hetkauttaneet, mutta nyt jätti sydän muutaman lyönnin väliin. Kauhugenre ei hirveästi minua kiinnosta, mutta The Fogilla on erityinen paikka miltei pysähtyneessä sydämmessäni.

Katsellessa tuota alkoi kyllä naurattamaan miten noita tulee jatkuvalla syötöllä ulos. Ring, Grudge, Dark Water, Ring 2... on kyllä pulaa omista ideoista Hollywoodissa.
"Spider-Man" franchise director Sam Raimi and original producing partners Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell are reteaming to produce a remake of the cult hit The Evil Dead through Ghost House Pictures and Senator International, reports Variety.
Raimi wrote, directed and produced the 1981 film, which tells the tale of a group of friends who go to a cabin in the woods, where they find an unspeakable evil lurking in the forest. One by one, the teens become deadly zombies. With only Ash (Campbell) remaining, it is up to him to survive the night and battle The Evil Dead.
Raimi will not direct the remake, so Ghost House is looking for a helmer to reinvent the franchise before a script is written.

Al Pacino, who's demonstrated a flair for courtroom theatrics in movies like "... And Justice for All" and "The Devil's Advocate," could be stepping before the bar once again in a remake of the Billy Wilder classic "Witness for the Prosecution."
Although no formal offers have gone out, Pacino has shown interest in the MGM project, based on the Agatha Christie play, which Wilder shot in 1957. Charles Laughton played the lead attorney in a case in which a wife appears as a witness for the prosecution against her husband.
Veteran TV producer David E. Kelley, who applied his law degree to such TV shows as "L.A. Law," "The Practice" and current Sunday entry "Boston Legal," would write the script.
